Whats a wheel

Well some research in to wheels lead me, in a fit of boredom, to compare apples with apples from the latest Cleveland Parts Catalog (please consult when looking at the following).

The cost of wheels seems very prohibitive and when dealing with weird PN's the salvage guys seems to take a lend of my lack of knowledge.

So I decided to compare the humble Piper PA22 Drum brake wheel, Pn 3040 (40-6), and see just how unique it is.

What is a 3040, well turns out its quite a few things from a raw structural item including Bearings and Bolts. The main difference between models is the Brake element and configuration of the seals - which appears to have no common thoughts to it.

Turns out with a swap of Drum to Disk my 3040 Wheel can take on a whole new personality - cheaply.
