5796Has anyone done or seen a carb intake mounted on the nose bowl of a short wing before? I would like to remove the intake scoop off of the belly and either mount a pitot type intake off of the nose bowl or try a vans RV type snorkel intake for a cleaner frontal profile.....Any thoughts/ideas?

On the Pacer Cowls I have done (22/20) - we just tunnel to the air box and do not put an external scoop - scoop is not necessary and gives a clean look

I also like the looks of the NACA scoop as well....it might be a finicky setup

Do you have picture of this type of setup? Is this similar to what the Lycoming powered Monocoupe have?

The RV style intake only drawback is if it rains. The water enters at the nose goes down the duct and collects at the bottom. Some have drilled a small hole to let the water out.

Good point!

I have a hole in the FAB on my RV-6. The rain running in while sitting is not an issue.

The photos show how Jim Younkin did it on the Mystery Pacer. The inlet area of the scoop appears to be quite small, but I have a hunch he knew what he was doing.

If you have the area of a 3" hole sealed - there is more air (ram effect) after 85 mph than any 0320 can take in at wot & full rpm.

Well....I guess my last statement was correct than!

I wonder if a 3" snorkel off of the copilot side cooling inlet baffle to the carb box would give sufficient MP? Of it is better to run a 3" diameter tube up as close to the prop and run it straight to the carb box...... Again I want to accomplish the cleanest least draggy frontal profile on a Pacer....:icon_wink:
