Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
Here is a link that contains pictures of the Interav alternator with the front mounted oil cooler. The right line will need to be a soft line. Late model Super Cubs had the line run between the intake tubes and the cylinders where earlier ones had them run over the top like the hard lines. http://www.shortwingpipers.org/forum...hlight=Interav
Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
Steve, I noticed in another forum you were talking about trying to install the plane power alternator without moving the oil cooler. Were you successful, and I'm assuming it required flexible lines?
When replacing to flexible lines have you guys used firesleeve or not?
Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
I have yet to install it. It will require some mounting bracket modification but is very doable. I always install firesleeve over flexible oil lines. Heat and abrasion are tough on these things.
Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
Steve,
When you get around to doing the modification would you mind posting pictures/drawings?

Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
Good thing to do. In the late 60's I flew my Stinson 108-2 from Seattle to Rverside, CA and back for the car races. When I got home I noticed an oil leak at the front of the engine. Investigation revealred that the oil cooler supports had broken on both sides and the cooler was retained on the engine only by the hoses. Lots of unfriendly ground on that route!!
Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
Sorry, more questions on oil coolers and engine baffles.
1) I am interested in Svenns STC for the baffles and cooler. It's a bit pricey but includes the baffles which I need.
(Steve, do you have baffles or can you make them more cost effectively?)
2) Regarding the oil cooler, Josh mentions a 10 element, but I'm seeing 9 and 7 being used?
Some are saying the larger coolers are too effective and I do have plans of cold weather for the plane.
Which is preferred? Any difference in Pacific vs. Niagra?
Also, is the Stewart's STC for a right rear baffle mount and Svenn's for left rear baffle?

Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
I think Stewarts oil cooler is on the left also. I must have been confused when I typed that. Josh is using Randy Rupert's baffles which are very nice and reinforced in the right areas. These are nice as well. http://www.airforms.biz/catalog/inde...ab53325e8bb30b
Baffles are very time consuming to build. It would be hard to make and have the quality vs. the cost unless your labor is worth nothing.
Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
Steve, those look like a good option as well. They are pretty specific on the application though and my SN falls outside that range?
Also wondering if they would be appropriate to mount the oil cooler on? I sent an email to get a little more info.
Re: O-320 Oil Cooler Baffle STC
That is because your serial number airplane came with an O-290. The STC for your engine calls out the baffles shown.
