Default Wing spar aileron pulley alignment

I’ve been trying to align the pulleys so that the new cables enter and exit the center of each pulley. Drawing number 14407, Figure 2 shows the upper pulley at a right angle to the spar. The side view also shows the false spar position. I’ve swapped parts right to left wing... left to right.. blah blah.. can’t imagine an engineer would call out something like this? It’s like installing an alternator with the sheaves intentionally misaligned to insure the belt shreds. What is the trick... bend the assembly to align the pulley?

I'm not sure that I can help even though I've spent more than a few hours working on the alignment of these pulleys on my Bushmaster. I have studied this drawings more than once. There is a lots of flexibility both directions, plus you can space the bracket in or out. I did get my cables aligned and centered. Bend the brackets or change the spacers on the spar. But, I'm sure you have tried all this. Maybe a picture of my wing would help. PM me.

Mark, is this an issue bcause of your modifications? I have built several Pacer Wings and don't remember having an issue.

I asked about this on mine and was told by a very reliable source that it wasn't as important in application as it looked. The pulley its hole lifetime doesn't move much more than a half inch. As a matter of fact on aircraft with wear on them , we have spun the pulleys a half turn and got another 20 years service out of them. I don't know how far off you are, but I tend to go overboard trying to make what Piper let leave the factory perfect. Good luck and I hope this helped.

    Mark,
My last pacer wing had a lot wear on the side of that pully. I just gave the bracket assembly a tweak with a pair of chanellocks until the cable was mostly tangent to both directions. Took about 30 seconds. I did have the aileron pinned in place.

Mr. Chanel Lock negotiated the upper pulley into alignment with a bit of persuasion.

The hole got moved??? In the dark of night??

I assume this is a new location for the hinge bracket for the Aileen.

Glad you got it figured out.

Nah....my odd way of saying the assembly was identically mounted in a different location.

Figured out the false spar compression pieces between the full ribs...where the spar reinforcement plates are installed.. one done..

Piper used two U channels (one above and one below) for the inboard false spar braces because of interference where the cables go from vertical to horizontal. Very interesting process on this modification. Paperwork should be very interesting.
