Re: PA-20 project or run?
cappt... if you meet the experience requirements, you could go take the IA test yourself. 3 years total as an A&P with the last 2 actively engaged in some form of aircraft maintenance is all it takes. When I did it I was concerned about the last part because I was floating from shop to shop helping out instead of being continually employed but I was told owning and maintaining my own aircraft qualifies as "actively engaged".
I am in the "go for it" camp as long as you understand, as many others have stated, it will cost a LOT more to restore it than it would ever sell for after it is done and you can absorb that expense.
Added thought: for a big one time project, I think it would be worth getting the IA then letting it lapse if you didn't want to maintain it but it is easy to maintain and you would not have to worry about when someone can do the annual on your aircraft. If you don't want to hire yourself out then don't tell your neighbors you have it.

Re: PA-20 project or run?
I think a couple of quotes are in order here: R. Reagan "Trust but Verify." and R. King "Can't we all just get along?"

YD,
I need his name, I'm going to get him to annual my next airplane I sell. I'm guessing he is not too worried about liability. Might get him a copy of AC43.13 for Christmas.

Nice pic CH. Did you just do that this morning?

Re: PA-20 project or run?
I did figure out the avatar post just this morning. Good thing I took the picture several days ago, I have greasy finger prints on it now. That might make a case for a brown waxed cotton version.

The Space Station just passed over Missouri.

I think I heard that the crew reported that they saw you waving!

This is really taxing my memory. Didn't a fungicidal go on before the nitrate?
