Thanks Clayton. Compared to what's on your plate, this is small potatoes. Glad to hear you're on the mend and able to be online. It sounds like the frame damage can be repaired without totaling the airplane, just means I'll be without wings until next spring while the frame moves around to go into a jig and be recovered. Sounds like the tubing was actually twisted, not a weld fracture. Haven't cut into it yet so the internals will be interesting. Will likely make use of the downtime to do a few tweeks. Will try and get over this weekend and see if I can get photos of the damage after it was opened up.

There seems to be too much bad luck landing Pacer's recently. Glad you're OK and your plan is repairable. After I sheared off my left landing gear landing in my field a few years back I made a few upgrades during the repairs and ended up with a better airplane.

Re: A trip sadly shortened
It would be great to look at this as an opportunity [see Stephen's post above] to make new improvements to your plane as it is repaired. All of our planes need a little extra attention from time to time....what better way to honor the legacy of these planes then to make good as new/better than new and "keep em flying!"

Re: A trip sadly shortened
Well, nuts. A second opinion on the repairs, from someone up here rather knowledgeable in Pacers, effectively totals the airplane. So, now need to figure if I’ll buy the salvage and repair it or what. I’d like too, but not sure how I can do that even close to economically with this move out of state.

Take the money and buy a different one.

Re: A trip sadly shortened
The insurance company totaled my plane and offered me the choice of taking $20,000 or $15,000 and keeping the plane. Since I do my own work, the $15,000 worked out for me. This was years ago. Good luck.

Just saw this. Sorry to hear about the mishap, glad to hear things are manageable at least. I was in the other Pacer w/ dog getting gas in Tok when we visited. Good luck.
Plane crazy.

Re: A trip sadly shortened
Bummer. Is right tire flat-spotted? Sounds like a brake might have been grabbing over there.
Hope you get it all sorted out. Don't get too attached unless your plane is the best option...otherwise go shopping and give your insurance company options of what is available. Helps focus both you and them.

While waiting for the insurance adjuster to show up to get the airplane, we took off the wheelpants we had on for the trip. Couldnt find any sign of flat spotting. I went looking for that to alay fears my brother had of inadvertantly having feet on brakes or cabling. I had control feel during the event so didnt think he had anything to do with it. The mounting plate for the wheel pant on that side was torn through at the bolts and the wheel had a score mark. So I know the two were in contact during the event but most likely late in the event as we piroetted around that side. I have no way to know if a tire bulge on landing just grabbed the edge of the plate to get things started. But its rather strange for the right gear to be bent forward, not backward like youd expect from a locked brake or similar.
