Steve about the "voices". My first Shop Foreman was from Rolls Royce and made me take home my Cresent wrenches. He said that even having one in your tool box at Rolls Royce was grounds for Dismissal-Holey Moley
I still hear his accent when i see one, lol

I used to feel the same way until I got a Klein adjustable wrench. The jaws are truly parallel and remain so under load. It's still my tool of last resort but it does have its uses.

Tractor supply has a double ended box wrench for trailer hitch ball nuts. The one end fits my O290 drain plug.

Steve, how much do you tighten the the an fittings into the oil cooler? Im guess since it is iron pipe threads you can torque them down pretty good.

I don't know a specific torque but they get tight especially when you get it clocked into the needed position. Check the torque on those oil cooler mounting nuts. Had an oil leak up front ona Tri-Pacer. When I got to looking I found the mount nut was loose. It allowed the bracket to wear a hole in the oil cooler causing the leak.

The oil cooler nuts were loose tighten them up. Used aviation permatex #3 form a gasket for the oil line threads.
I ended up torquing them to undetermined torque because of the angle at which I need the oil line to clear the exhaust cross over. It was tight!.
No more oil leak. On to the next project.

Yesterday, I helped a friend removed his oil sump looking to stop an oil leak. This 0-320 has less than a hundred hours since major. It had no gasket between the sump and the case EXCEPT, a two inch piece of gasket material left on the mating surfaces. Problem found, now I wonder what else was done improperly? We cleaned surfaces thoroughly and used a gasket.

Have run across similar things on others planes, kinda scary not knowing what else may be wrong.

We've found missing safety wire after 3-4 annuals since we purchased our plane. I guess that's part of why we are required to do ongoing inspections.
