    Default 78" 54 pitch prop

Anyone tried one on a short wing?

Have been using a 78/45 klip tip with 160 hp perfect combo for speed and takeoff performance that we could come up with.

Static 2375 wide open 2700. Tach has been verified with digital. Did dynamic balance also and made a big difference in engine being much smoother.

Outside of a difficult field approval is there an STC applicable to a McCauley 78 inch prop on a PA22? I know Svenns has an STC SA-02670CH for Installation of the 82 inch McCauley 1A175GM propeller in pitch range of 40 to 45 for PA22's. Then their is the infamous Borer STC but limited to PA18's. Staying within the limitatations of the 1A6 TCDS, the 74DM seems to be the only approved choise for the O-320 PA22's (excepting the Hartzel CS prop) and I've tried several 74DM in pitch ranges all the way from 50 to 61, and seems the only all round performer for climb/speed is in the 56 to 58 range.

Brian, that's true. That's why I dropped this in the experimental subforum.

    Eskflyer, thanks for the info.

Probably still a paperwork hassle getting it certified and back to phase one and all.

I need to re-read the pub, but I think as far as props are concerned, only going from fp to cs and vice versa requires phase 1.
