Default PA-16 Clipper Project for Sale

Very complete project for sale. Disassembled. Full logs and paperwork (currently registered and with AW Cert.) O-235 (timed out but was running), prop, second wing tank (was going to do the 150hp thing), all cowls, fuse. primed, all instruments. GREAT history (was a covergirl in 1949)...have FAA CD. Scott tailwheel. Good amount of extras. This plane needs to be restored right....150hp, wing tanks, and everything else factory stock and light. If that is your vision for a Clipper, this is the jumping off point! Sad to have to part ways with it. Its like a PA-16 kit. Needs leading edge work (no damage, just old and worn), windshield (broke in disassembly). Located in NY State. Accepting offers.

Sorry you are selling. What is the story behind the "1949 Covergirl"?

    Hi Steve,
This Clipper was the first Clipper delivered to the West Coast, and was therefore the show plane for the West Coast market. As such it was featured prominently on the cover of the July 1949 issue of Skyways magazine and was featured in the flight test article....mentioned by name (N5215H) with many photos of the plane.
So, as far as these things go, a little bit of fame for the old ship!

I have the next Clipper - N5216H. It's great to see some of the history, and what my plane probably looked like when it was new. Apparently, it doesn't look much different now.

Thanks for posting the magazine article and photos!

Very pretty ship John! Not far away from where I am either!
Yeah, I am really into the individual history of these planes. Whats the history on yours?
Over the past few years, I've been all about trying to collect photos of the early short-wings (15s-20s). Cool schemes and colors. As simple as it was, I dig the factory Clipper/early Pacer schemes. Maybe I should start another thread on this stuff.....
Here is Clipper N5255H in original 1949 color. These slides were from a collection with the EAA Chapter in Marlboro, MA. Photos from the same place, 1949-early 50s. Kodachrome color slides of this period are fantastic. Get to see in full color how these planes looked. This is how they looked....
