Glad to see an airplane saved. Too bad some knucklehead carved up that panel.

Re: New member - New project
Hey Matt,
Welcome to the forum it is a great place as has been stated.
I have been an Airport Bum in The Houston area since 1964. Bummed around mainly at the airports on the West side of Houston but spent a lot of time at all of them over the years. I probably have met you or your Dad at some point. I assume he was at La Port. A last name would help a lot.
Anyway I have a new panel blank that might fit your plane. I live on Covey Trails Airpark South of Katy. If you think you can use it come and get it. I bought it from Clyde Smith "The Cub Doctor" but decided to use a different blank that I also bought from him.
Take care,
Jim, the other one

Hi Matt,
I'm sorry for the apparently inappropriate comment. I do that sometimes without thinking most folks here and there don't know much about me and my sometimes off the wall humor.
Again, sorry for stepping in it without taking the possible outcome in account.

Re: New member - New project
I thought I felt a disturbance in the force -must have been your airplane leaving the state. Looks like a good one and can't wait to see it's progress.
My wife is pretty supportive of my aviation habit and has been known to kick me out the house to go flying. Gotta love that kind of woman. However, I get the impression that not many are like that so it's a pretty rare sighting. Keep posting the pics of the plane as that's what we're looking for here anyway. Plane porn
Good luck with the project!

Hi Matt,
Yep, another Jim (but I'm not in Texas). Looks like a great project, please keep us updated. The very humble Mr. Pierce is one of the great assets on this board. I recovered my wings and tail a short while back, the CD of drawings and the help from Steve and this board are the reason my airplane flies again.
If the hacked up panel is your biggest problem I'd say you are doing very well!
Good luck,
The third Jim.

I had to chuckle at the picture request. I'm like.... Umm. Put it this way. When I started my Bearhawk project....my bride called it the bit..ch. Bought my Pacer... My bride has been super supportive throughout the rebuild... she hates every picture I have of her.
Matt.... Have fun.... I've enjoyed my project...sharing the progress with the group also has its reward.... So share!
Found a picture.....

First things first - if this was said in fun, then I'm sorry for getting my feathers ruffled. Just caught me off guard. No hard feelings - razz me all you want, but when it comes to my gal - well - yeah... you know. Nuff said.

Hi Matt, great group here. You are at the right place to rebuilt or maintain the SW's, just ask any questions and you will have answers real quick. Just remember, "do just one thing per day" to keep the build going.

- Yeah - but that's a pretty easy fix, and gives me an excuse to "CUSTOMIZE!!!"

- Jim, Dad's name was Gary Lentz and he was in the Houston area from 1979 on. Initially as manager of Houston Piper at Hobby. After that he started his own shop and sales operation on the west side by the tower called Gulf Coast Aero Services. That was going well until his partner involved the company in the big Herman Life Flight scandal. So then on to Houston Gulf (SPX) where he started again - just maintenance this time. That's where I really started spending time in and around the planes. Early teens. When we learned that airport had been sold, it was over to Ellington for 14 years. 9/11 put an end to that - we couldn't stand the weeks of grounded aircraft and the FBO there moved us out. We were working on a deal to try develop the LaPorte airport, but that never went anywhere. Our last shop was at Baytown where Dad was responsible for gaining "reliever" status for that airport. We lost him in the last months of that process and that was the end of the road for LFS. (Lentz Flying Service).
I'd definitely put that panel blank to good use - just let me know what you need for it. And a big "thank you" in advance!
