I have that tool...the difficulty is when trying to install the #4 sheet metal screws into predrilled new spars...the Dakota cub screws strip out at the Phillips....thing...even when using a brand new #1 bit....or the screw snaps off. Even the cad plated steel screws from ACS snap/break...no where near tight..

Why don't you weld a steel #4 screw shank to the end of a screwdriver handle... then you've got a tap that's not gonna strip or slip. Run that through your hole real quick before you drive the SS screws home.

Council meetings usually start with a cuss, a fist fight, then the pledge of allegiance. Best part of small-town living, if you don't know what your doing just ask someone!

    I
tried that at my first job while going to A&P school. I was informed they don't work on airplanes. I tried it and he was right. Not enough solid structure, it just bounces back.

Mark, I have use Dakota Cub screws on many new spars and never had that problem. I use a 12" long #1 screwdriver so I am straight on the screw.

I use two sizes of pilot drill, one for the spar and one for sheet metal.
if you are snapping screws then go up a number size. Practice in scrap. Do the same with the sheetmatal to rib screws. Test on scrap.

Get a lot of high quality #1 bits and toss them often.
i use a small screw gun with clutch and long extension.

#40 bit in the spar with a piece of steel taped to the spar web to keep from nicking it. Ribs should already be drilled. #45 in ribs etc.
