Re: CFI with Pacer wihin 200 nm of Detroit, MI?
I can't say which is harder to land as I've never flown an F-18 but I bet it's a blast.

I didnt care much for my Clipper making me doubt my tailwheel skill when I first got it, but it didnt take long to get it and start looking forward to the challenge and fun of the foot work. I dont think I could ever sell my Clipper, its a great little plane and I kind of like the way it doesnt like to go down the centerline.. keeps your feet alive

It can be the scariest and most fun you can have in your life. A lot of times they both take place at the same time.

Wes, I haven't thought of this yet, but I think that this is a very valid point. If we buy a Tri-Pacer, I will probably feel bad, every time I see some cool taildragger on bigger wheels.

Our Hornet friend never bent a F-18
Jim, Wouldn't you think that landing on a carrier requires a very different skill set than flying a taildragger? Would this in return mean that every Pacer pilot who managed to put thousand of incident free hours on his Pacer would also be the superior fighter pilot? Probably not...

I feel the same about my Pacer. Barring a financial catastrophe, 44K will go on the block as they throw the first scoop of dirt in my face! The only possibility would be if I was trading up to a C-195 or D-17....Maybe!

Re: CFI with Pacer wihin 200 nm of Detroit, MI?
Hi Everyone
I have been reading all of the good info on this forum and the replies to Oliver. A lot of good info and advice so I thought I would add to it. One of the big reasons for a ground loop is Pilots try to drive airplanes like a car. You can get away with that in a tri gear airplane but not in a Pacer. I will explain this. If you have a xw on the right and touch down with the wing down on the right and on rollout the airplane starts to the right a lot of pilot will move the ailerons to the left and that is what sets the pacer up for a major ground loop. After landing the aileron should not move and as the airplane slows down you can increase aileron to the right on roll out.
I know you all know this info but I think a lot of ground loops are caused by improper use of ailerons and have caused unfair damage to Pacers and their reputation. Also a lot of pilots don't fly enough to stay current.
I earned my private certificate in Pacer N7478K in 1954. Dad bought this Pacer in 1953 and we have owned it ever since and it has not been ground looped. Knock on Wood.

Fred made a very good suggestion. This is really obvious with our SNJ-4 Bad things can happen real quick with it. I do believe the Navy training films also say not to do that.
Fred
, That is outstanding that you have had the Pacer since new JUST WOW.
German Guy,
Good Pacers, which this looks like, don't stay around long. Also this started life as a Pacer not a conversion.
Like I stated Grandson soled ours at 16 and has many trouble free hours in it.
