That's what I thought too, but mine is installed, and this one is much thicker. I'm thinking it was used to lift the engine off come to think of it.

Looks to be an 1/8" cable in the picture compared to the AN3 bolt, the bungee cables are 1/16" if I remember correctly.

I have similar mystery cable that looks just like that. Runs from the engine hoist attachment point through the firewall and wraps around the frame under the windshield.
Im thinking of removing it as it does not do anything except add weight and doesn't make a good ground since its pretty loose.

This is my mystery cable. This maybe a stupid question but what reason would there be a cable from the engine hoist mount, through the fire wall and wraps around the frame.
Can I remove it?

I have seen this done on Formula 1 race planes in case they shed a prop blade at 4000 rpm the engine imbalance can be so bad that the engine shakes off its mounts. Never heard of this happening to a Short Wing.

You sure it’s not a ground wire. The engine is mounted on rubber. Without that the engine has no ground for the starter. The starter ground path is to the engine crankcase. The crankcase is isolated from the battery ground by the rubber mounts.
Without the ground strap from the engine case to the airframe the starter will find a ground thru the engine controls and fuel line. NOT GOOD. Plus the starter will turn real slow.

The cable is loosely attached and there are two other ground cables from the firewall to the engine mount then to the engine. Never seen it before. Maybe when i remove it ill also put a new grounding strap on just to make sure.
