Re: Firewall Grommets and Sealing Putty; PA22 Steering Pushrod
At work we use PRC DeSoto P/S 700 firewall sealant on turbine engine Pylon heat shields. It has a temperature range of -65 to 400 degrees and can withstand flash temperatures up to 2,000 degrees. GE also uses Momentive RTV 106 (Red) for the sealing of engine cowling fire seals. The RTV 106 is good for temps up to 500 degrees and intermittent temps of 600 degrees. The P/S 700 is pricey at about $100 for a 6 oz tube but its good stuff.

Re: Firewall Grommets and Sealing Putty; PA22 Steering Pushrod
Thanks All for the suggestions for firewall sealant. I suppose fireproof-ness is not 100% relevant since the rubber grommets themselves would probably burn away regardless of the sealant.
Any thoughts about the pushrod "floating bushings" in the firewall, ie, are there any improvements available?
Mine seem to be kind of sticky as they translate within the clamshells as rudder pedals are depressed.
I've smashed the bushing assemblies (cup-packing-cup) pretty flat in a vise, and confirmed the clamshell on the firewall is not distorted (unless the four mounting screws are a little too tight?)
It's such a pain to work on anything down on the firewall...
Thanks,
GG
