I have the prototype York Gustlock built for the Clipper. They used my airplane to design it and then gave it to me. I use it at OSH and SnF. No damage. It grips the stick in an adjustable rubber lined clamp and locks it and the rudder pedals against the carry thru structure. Folds up and carry it with me in a bag my wife made for it.
As I said it was given to me for allowing them to use my plane to design the prototype. Not sure I would pay that. I would have enjoyed designing and building it myself.
I can see advantages of both styles - ignoring the price issue.
With "Gilbert's" unit its easy, one location install that is 99.9% impossible to forget to remove before flight. However, if the wind is knocking on your control surfaces isn't it still stressing your control linkages? Sure the yoke and pedals can't move but everything in between is still trying to move.
On "Tom's" version everything is held at the source - that is unless you have somebody (ie little kid) pulling on the yoke inside. However if the wind is what's trying to move the controls then these would allow less stress to the linkages. Yet with this design you have a slightly higher risk of trying to take off with one installed. Shouldn't but it COULD happen.
That's my uninformed 2˘ worth

here is my answer for pretty inexpensive gust lock. To remove is part of preflight. If you forget to remove you probably wont the next time cuzz there wont be a next time. I have 5 of these one for each flap to aileron, one for each side of horizontal to elevator , and one for rudder.
