Airplane is registered in Groveland California. We landed on a ranch strip just south of there when my son got sick when we were headed to Jognson Creek. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

More Details along with Pilot's name. He was an AP/IA as well.

I've flown into Pine Mountain Lake airstrip a couple times. That's the only nearby airport to the small community of Groveland.
Chances are that was where he was based out of.

    Approximate location of crash site:

Thanks for posting that article. Best article on an airplane crash I have ever read. Sorry I never met him. Thoughts and prayers for his wife and neighbors.

Curious that his wife believed the accident happened while landing on an airport but the NTSB and NM State Police clearly say the crash site was a mile from San Miguel Ranch airport in rough mountainous terrain.
Not that it matters. Very tragic end for a highly skilled mechanic and pilot.

Sounds like a loss not only to family and friends, also to general aviation.

The report from the local deputy on funnel clouds and severe weather in the area rings loud in my ears. I've traveled to ABQ and Los Alamos in my work many times, and the speed with which weather - thunder storms - can appear in that area can be stunning. Sad story. Sounds like a great guy.
