    The left Aleron spar has some oxidation on it. What do you guys use to get that off?

    Scotch brite is usually my first choice in conjunction with a good cleaning and protective measures. Airworthiness of the part will likely become a factor pretty quick if doing much more than scuffing the surface.

    Have you looked under the steel parts riveted to the spar? I’ve rebuilt several that looked good until I removed the steel hinges. The spar was almost corroded through.

    I use these: 3M-18733 Roloc Bristle Disc Grade - 120 grit (white). They also come in 80 and 50 grit.

    Yes. If just removing small amounts of surface corrosion I do it by hand. If doing a lot I switch to the roloc scotch brite discs or wheels. I wipe with a rag dampened with acetone to check my progress. I have used the scotch brite wheels for a dremel when working a bad spot in a tight area but those are expensive and do not last very long.
