    Default Happy Vagabond Anniversary

Vagabond are 70 years old this year!

Although I don't have logbook evidence I have worked out that mine was built on or around Monday 9th August 1948.

Anyone have documented evidence of their Vagabond's build date and first flight?

Piper was building approx. 3-3.5 Vagabond per day.

Clyde Smith, aka, The Cub Doctor, has all those records.
Mine sat for 9 months from build date to sale date.

    N4331H. s/n 15-118. Certificate of conformity 4/2/48. Sold 4/8/48 $2010. Factory test flight 30 minutes, 4/10/48.
Yes it was sold prior to the factory test flight. Converted to PA17 1950. FAA changed s/n to 17-118.

That means there could be 2 aircraft with SN 17-118. My Vag was converted to a 17 but no Model or SN change, still 15-288.

    I thought about that also.

For grins I went to the FAA database and did a search by serial number...

There is a PA-17 registered under 17-118 in Delaware... Gilbert, your airplane is registered as a PA-17 but under serial number 15-118 still... that is in the online database...
