Re: RPMs with What Prop
I have a 7gc I put a sessenich 74 48 would turn 2700 in level flight climb was awesome indicated cruise was 100mph 89 by gps in the summer with 85 plus temps field elevation 3650 only problem it would over temp in about a hour of continues flight /playing put my maculey 74 54 on 120mph indicated might do 2400 in a 70 mph climb 2500 in level flight but no overheating problems I think 74 /50 for climb 74 52 for a all around and 74 54 for cruise hope that helps

Re: RPMs with What Prop
Los of variables including is the prop pitched to what it is stamped? Taken several props to the prop shop J and discovered the prop had flattened out over the years or rep itched without stamping the prop. Props that have been rework (material removed) normally do not perform as well as a new prop. Saw this when my Dad installed a new prop on his Clipper and a customer who installed a new prop on his Tri-Pacer, both saw big performance increases. Altitude, temperature, tach accuracy and engine health are all variables as well.

Steve,
The DM 74-58 prop was factory new at the time of engine overhaul and restoration of the plane. I have been flying this plane since the 5 year rebuild in 1995 by my now deceased neighbor. The engine has never turned the 2800 RPM with this prop. It will turn 2550-2600 at WOT in level flight and 125-130MPH
I have flown it in different temps. and altitudes also the tach has been checked. It has performed the same all these years.
I was just curious to know what the other O-290-D2 guys are getting with this and other props.
Thanks,
Jim

My post was meant as a general statement on prop variables. When I had a 61" pitched prop on my Pacer it would not go to the 2700 rpm redline. Repitched to 58" and it wasn't as fast but I like the take off power a lot better.

Re: RPMs with What Prop
I do not have the citabria cowl my oil cooler is mounted on the firewall and ducted with 3 inch scat hose the same oil cooler as a pacer/tripacer the old heavy brass Harrison unit. I rebuilt my 7gc from a trailer load of parts that I bought from two guys in Oklahoma she is like me old and kind of rough but airworthy

Thanks to you that responded.
I guess there aren't to many on this site with O-290-D2s that would share any info.

Jim, I have a D2 and shared what info I have, unfortunately, I don't know that much. LOL

Re: RPMs with What Prop
To get those RPMs you would need variable pitch like the old Koppers Aeromatic which is on the TCDS of the PA22s.
I believe ADs pretty much relagated these to the Experimental market. Found a new one on Barnstormers:
