Re: Shock cord duration
Nothing mandatory. I replace when they start sagging a lot.

I agree, especially with the "....a lot." part. Soft bungees are much more pleasant for landing.

If you make a sharp turn and taxi about 10 feet and she's still sagging it's time

Mine were over 10 years old when I finally replaced them.

Marc,
During your annual you should remove the seat(s) and the "leather" cover from the shock tower, and inspect the bungees visually.
If there are a lot frayed threads or rubber bands, ask your A&P/IA to give an opinion.
If they are dirty and/or oil soaked they will degrade more quickly (and you may have other problems related to oil that you might want to address.)
If you have not replaced bungees on a Piper Hydrosorb you should get help from someone with experience, it's tricky and can be dangerous.
Several videos on YouTube show how to use the several tools available. Google "replacing bungee shortwing" for a few discussions and videos.

Re: Shock cord duration
Speaking of bungees, has anybody ever rigged up some kind of safety cables ,similar to the ones they put on Cubs, for a Shortwing bungee/ hydrasorb setup?
I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things
