Fuel fittings
I am starting to reassemble the fuel system on my Vagabond.
I have the gascolator mounted on the firewall and in the cabin I have an elbow fitting that screws into the gascolator.
The elbow fitting needs to point straight up so I can connect the flexible hose to go to the tank.
Only problem is the elbow fitting only goes tight when pointing 90 degrees CW off vertical.
How can I overcome this?
I do have the recommended Loctite thread sealant but don't believe this is adequate without the fitting being tight.

Re: Fuel fittings
The fitting should be tight, gas leaks all to easily. Maybe, take the gascolater off the airplane, put it in a vice and get the extra turn.
"You can only tie the record for flying low."

Re: Fuel fittings
You can also try a new fitting, i've found thàt to help in the past

Re: Fuel fittings
Original gascolator or new one...?

Re: Fuel fittings
How tight? Pipe thread torque is much, much lower than bolts and nuts.

Re: Fuel fittings
Hmm, don't like that idea of using a vice! I would have to turn the fitting another 270 degrees....
I am going to see if I can find another elbow as suggested.
It is a new gascolator but same issue with the old one.
I think all my pipework had been assembled using that brown PR stuff. Probably the previous owner 50 years ago had the same issue!

Re: Fuel fittings
Must you use an elbow off the gc? Try a strait fitting with an elbow fitting into the strait. Maybe this will help, maybe not http://www.shortwingpipers.org/forum...-to-gascolator

Re: Fuel fittings
Got it sorted. My aviation mechanic friend had the correct NPT taperer tap and we just turned the tap and extra 1/2 turn.
Fittings now line up correctly and tight.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: Fuel fittings
I was going to suggest that but figured you had a better chance of having another fitting than a NPT tap in England. I have quite a bit of Wentworth and British Standard but no use for it since I no longer work on Hawker Furies or Merlins and the Chipmunk got sold.

That was going to be my next suggestion also... Just had not seen the updates on this thread until now...
Brian.
