Approach to Anchorage airport looks like an exciting highway to dodge holes, shifts and other oops

Not to trivialize the event, but this meme from FB about sums it up:IMG_0936.jpg

That being said, it is truly amazing: no deaths, no directly related injuries, some infrastructure damage and some personal home/property loss. Airports were able to remain open (slight interlude while the tower was evacuated). Over 200 aftershocks, many in the 5.0+ range and still we are looking for coffee.

    Best one I heard was:

Dont know what to get your friends and family up here in alaska for Christamss? Everyone in Ancharage needs plates and glasses.

The reality is we have been exctionally fortunate in that it would have only taken a small increase in magnitude to have caused an exponential amount of trauma.

About 60 miles NNW of the epicenter and it rocked the **** out of our home. Only a couple things fell off shelves and broke. I'm a Cali boy so I've been through a few. The copilot was trying to panic but I held firm although I was begaining to think about the house folding up. Fun times.

was was able to get up in the air later in the day for a look see. Lake ice, I heard it was a foot thick, was cracked up accordingly.

    Good stuff guys!

Everybody I've heard from is okay minus the need for dishes, plates, new picture frames, etc. Oh and maybe a little valium for the nerves. I was in a low 4.x shaker in ANC a few years ago, barely stopped shaking and my phone rang, it was the crashpad owner's wife (he is/was a coworker and was on a trip) checking on the house!

    Be safe folks!

Three days later and the damaged roads are already fixed.

And the train is running north through Talkeetna!

Its not not the first time I've seen this up here. We get **** done. In the winter.

Im a pretty hard core greeny weiney but there is a time and a place for inviromental studies etc and a time to get it done without delay. No core of engineer studies: rule of thumb, crushed gravil, and rock-n-roll.

Shoot I was up in the air six hours after the shaking to check on some remote properties.

Spoke to one of the owners of K2 today and no real hanger trauma, ditto a few other air taxi providers in Anchorage.

Way to go Alaska. Rocket, you know California ...... any guess how long that would have taken down here? Three something but not three days. Very impressed.
