    Default First flight

Flew my plane (with instructor) for the first time today. Few quirks but I like it so far. Which is good since I bought it already. Lol. All good except the carrier landing

I did the same thing my first few flights. Set the ELT off, I wasn't a very good student but had warbird pilot Howard Pardue in the right seat. He saved the crash but said he failed as an instructor.

I have been flying my Pacer for 19 years (almost 2,000 hours in it) and still have the carrier landings every once in a while. Usually when the wind is calm and it is a nice clear day (never set off the ELT though). So don't feel bad about it.

Enjoy the new (to you) airplane.

All my landings are in archers. I think my problem was I didn't trim down when I pulled 2nd notch of flaps plus the spring in the elevator. So when I went to flare I went from holding forward pressure to pulling back for flare and just came back to far and sank like a tri pacer. Insurance wanted instructor but so did I and glad I did.

Some years back I had a landing that left our dental fillings on the floor boards. I apologized to my wife and told her the throttle was a bit sticky. (It really was)

Later I made one that so smooth that the tires didn't chirp. I asked my wife "How about that one?" "I had my eyes closed" she answered.

    Congrats!

Sounds like you really really really need to find a short wing pilot to fly with. Dint think your instructor should have let you hit that hard but then again our bird are built tough!

I always smack in my first two or so when I go from floats to skis even when I know I will.

Im a king of colorful language, but usually with the PTT depressed so the whole area gets to hear it :/

Always thought a well place bit of profanity never hurt if it was in earnest and truly heartfelt.

You know... I have to use a come-a-long to pull my plane into its tie down while on skis and as I was cranking it in yesterday I was wondering if I might brake something.

then I thought to myself wonder if anyone ever played carrier landing with small planes for fun. Would make a good air show contest event even. See, you are already one step ahead.
