Heading indicator
I have the original heading indicator that is like the compass and only see the edge. I have seen newer ones that has the numbers like a clock face. On those planes there is a gauge in the hole under it where the adjustment knob was. What is it? I didn't find it on the parts catalog.

Re: Heading indicator
Could you post a picture of what you mean?
It's not clear what you are asking.

Re: Heading indicator
I may be dead wrong , but it looks like a suction gauge. Not sure.

Re: Heading indicator
Looks just like the "replacement" suction gauge in my -22.

Re: Heading indicator
Someone put a vacuum suction gauge in the hole where your original AN direction gyro adjustment knob was.

Re: Heading indicator
Thank you. I had seen it before and didn't think much about it until I realized that if I upgrade the gauge it would leave a hole.
I'd like to at some point go electronic and eliminate the vacuum system all together.
Looking at the av30 from https://aerovonics.com/products

Re: Heading indicator
Just curious, Flyjeep, does that suction gauge indicate correctly when the engine is running?
Since you were unsure what it was, I hope you understand it's function.
Engine off, needle to zero. Engine running, needle in the green. The needle typically vibrates a bit in the zone.
No disrespect intended, just want to be sure you know what it does, and it is indicating proper vacuum system function.

It's not mine I lifted the picture from a you tube clip. I was looking to fill the hole if I upgrade the gauge. My plane has no vacation gauge.

Re: Heading indicator
This is what I'd like to do. They should be certified soon. Could loose the vacuum system. My gauges are 60 years old and could use a refresh for a little more I can go digital. But this is down the list $$.
