Default PA-22 tank bay drag tube replacement

What is the difference between the PA-22 tank bay drag tube, PN#10641-002 and the PA-18 PN#10641? From drawings, etc., I thought that they would be the same part, since the rib locations and tanks are identical. PA-22 PN from Univair is $130. PA-18 PN from Dakota Cub is $66.

    Thank you in advance.

10641 is 47 11/32 long, 10641-2 is 47 1/4 long center to center. .094 difference. Based on Piper Specification 9, fractional dimensions larger than 1/8 the tolerance is +- 1/32 so max tolerance on the short one, min tolerance on the long one still puts you out 1/32.

Where did you find this information? It is obviously a very valuable resource.
Thank you for the quick reply.

If it isn't in the SWP drawing CD or the Vagabond CD, the next source is http://www.supercubproject.com/drawings/ a drawing viewer for the L21 drawings. That's where I got the 10641 drawing from.

Yep, they throw the wing trammeling way off when someone mixes them up.

Thanks Steve, I have not seen this document before. I've always wondered what the tolerances were on the old Piper drawings and now I know.

The L21 drawing viewer identified above has that and several other Piper Specifications from the same era. Interesting reading for sure!

I had looked in the SWPC drawings but couldn't find anything other than the PN#. Thank you for pointing me to the L-21 drawings. I have looked at them but hadn't thought to look for the PA-22 part there. It is amazing the things that I can learn on this forum if I linger long enough reading through everything.
