Which oil quick drain ?
Anyone like to recommend a particular oil quick drain ? Seems like the Curtis CCB-37000 - https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catal...squickdv36.php - is about right for the Clipper ( O-235 ) but I'm open to suggestion... Cheers, Donn

Re: Which oil quick drain ?
Donn,
Just installed a FAA/PMA approved Saf-Air Oil Drain Sump Valve on the Vag's C85 to replace the leaking Aeroquip unit. During annual last month the A&P recommended the Saf-Air unit because the o-ring could be replaced and the Aeroquip unit could not. Saf-Air is lower cost compared to Aeroquip, too.

Saf-Air is the one we have. Never had a problem with it.

I have one on my O-235-L2C and it works fine. I used a bit of Loctite 567 on the threads before installation.
I also had a similar Curtis drain valve on my previous aircraft (Rotax 912 ULS engine) after replacing the Saf-Air valve that began leaking shortly after installation. The Curtis valve worked much better and didn't leak after 400+ hours with 25-hour oil changes.

Re: Which oil quick drain ?
The O-235-C1 engines I have worked on did not have a place in the sump for a quick drain. I ended up drilling the large suction screen plug and taping it to accept a pipe thread and the quick drain valve. I have been using the Safe-Air P5000. You can replae the o'rings in the Safe-Air valves unlike the Curtis.

Then I shall stand corrected even though I couldn't get their link to the certification to open this morning.
If you had the Curtis specified valve for the Rotax then it was a little different design allowing for the crush gasket.

If I understand it correctly, while I am sure it works great, the 37000 drain would not be "correct" to use on the Clipper (minor alteration?). The only PMA'd drain I see from Curtis to install on an O-235 is the CCB-38000.

The pan in N5972H appears ready to accept a 1/2-NPT quick drain, it's shown as an O-235-C1. Any reason not to proceed ? What do you recommend for thread sealant ? Thanks !
