This reminds me of an Alaskan bush story. Red dog was called upon to pickup a couple of hunters, their gear and game with his 185. When he arrived at the pickup site, he found that it was more of a pond than a lake and the hunters each weighed about 300 pounds. Looking at the two Moose, a weeks worth of camping gear, booze and food Mike told the hunters that it would take two trips to get everything out. The hunters had a fit. We are not going to pay for two trips. Old Joe hauled all of this stuff and more last year. Mike thought that he really did not want to lose the revenue and Hell, if old Joe could do it, I sure as can. As Mike taxied out with the float sterns awash he figured that he had better use all the pond available and make a circling takeoff run. Mike circled the pond twice, finally got lined up with the wind, pulled one float out of the water and managed to stagger off. They had it made until as they crossed the tree line they got a sinker and in spite of Mike’s great airmanship they settled into the trees and after shedding wings and tail they came to an inglorious stop. As they climbed out of the wreckage, Mike was cussing up a storm calling himself the most stupid SOB that ever strapped on an airplane. The hunter took a swig of “medicine” and told Mike not to be so hard on himself. Why Mike, you got 300 feet further than old Joe got last year!
