Wow, I guess I’m lucky…I’ve never seen EGT’s that high, even when leaning to 7.4 gph at 2350 RPM.. my hottest CHT is on cylinder #4 and runs it just under 430 degrees. Oil temp will climb, but the cylinder temp stays fairly cool… even when leaning for the best RPM. I generally richen the fuel air mixture to decrease the oil temperature.
Can’t say the same thing in my son’s airplane. I just changed out #2 cylinder with 51 hours on it since I rebuilt the engine. The cylinder had bad scoring, rings looked like the metal was rolled off the edges of the compression rings. Center of the exhaust valve was green. Compression was 80/25 cold 80/20 hot. Test flight two days go the CHT was near redline on number 3… which is the sole CHT bayonet style instrument. Ordering a CGR30P from Steve when I get home. In the mean time I’m going to tear into the carburetor… don’t recall if it’s a -32… but it’s definitely not delivering enough blue coolant to the engine.

Actual EGT temperatures are more a function of where in the exhaust stack the probe is located than anything else. Thats why lots of EGT gages don't have numbers, all you really want is when it peaks, not what the temperature is. Gasoline burns at the same temperature with a stochiometric mixture. It gets cooler on either the rich or lean side.

PING---I was really considering getting a new carb a while back... Only because I'm always looking for better performance, not because I have a performance deficiency or defect, now.

    BG: I have a 10-3678-11 (not -12 or -32) in my '56TP with original O-320-A1A.

Since my A&P asked me a simple question: Is your plane running good? My reply: "Uh, yeah, it runs great." And he followed with, "then leaveitthe****alone"...So, I disconnected from this thread.

But, I still think about it from time to time. I'm wondering if anyone knows the difference between the the -11 and -12. I can find lots of data on the -12. But, not my carb. Just curious. Only if you have time, and can readily answer, should you reply.

    Thx,
    Subsonic
