Bushmaster Project help

Hey everyone, I've finally started on this Bushmaster project I bought a few years ago, but I question the gear structure and toughness though. I've looked at lots of different gear but haven't quite seen this. It looks like PA14 type gear, but with some extra support welded in. I have no drawings other than some bushmaster ones I found a couple years ago, but they don't have this gear. Is this strong enough? It just seems a little sketchy and the elevator connector rod goes through the middle of it. Any thoughts?

New one on me as well. I guess they didn't want the drag of the Trimmer/Maule or Cub style gear.

It looks like an unusual way to avoid using a cabane vée. It was a short cut to avoid replacing the forward landing gear attachments and reinforcing the cross tubing. I would have it reviewed by an expert DAR.

It is not PA14 type gear.

Yeah… looks a little light on the tube attachment point at the bottom end of the hydrosorb. All depends on the tubing wall thickness and how the void is filled between the flat sides of the hydrosorb and inside diameter of the tubing. Can’t see much on the upper mounts. Looks like a good idea though… if done right.

I think this was originally a PA22 so the forward gear fittings were prob welded on to make this gear work. Same mounting locations as a PA20 from how it looks.
I wonder if I can still use this gear and rework the brackets underneath the fuse and add a cabane vee or something.

I agree, the tubing is one of my concerns. I'll add another pic

I would think the tubing should be at least sealed at the ends? Not open like this

If I can't make this gear work, what other gear options do I have?

Yes, i would.

I would consider cub gear. Wack out that double cross tube and replace it with a single tube larger diameter than the original one while you are at it.
