Cleveland Wheels and brakes
We purchased the Williams STC for a Cleveland disk brake conversion on a PA22/20. He said he would need the parts below. So now we are looking for them. He said most of them came off a PA28-140.
Wheel 40-28
Brake 30-18
OR
Alternate Wheel 40-86
Alternate Brake 30-55
Torque Plate 75-16
Spacer Piper part number 63484-00
Thanks,
-
Re: Cleveland Wheels and brakes
RexandKim,
Buy new, do not go with used equipment, I speak from experience. Too many times we have installed used wheels and brakes only to have to replace bearings, wheel calipers, pads, ect...Wound up having as much into a used set including the repairs as a new set.
On that note, we use the Cleveland brake conversion kit # CLD 199-04600 from Chief Aircraft at $1015.00. I have used this kit with the Williams STC on several Tri-Pacers. I make a 1/4-inch spacer out of tube stock to fit the axel for brake disk alignment. Everything else is an easy bolt in job.
Take care.
Brian.

Good thoughts. I will pass this on to Rex.

Re: Cleveland Wheels and brakes
Hey Brian,
What torque plate part number did you use on this Cleveland brake conversion kit # CLD 199-04600 from Chief Aircraft? Where did you find one?
Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Cleveland Wheels and brakes
Kim,
Should have been one that came with the kit. Need to use the little bushings to bolt it onto the axle plates.

Re: Cleveland Wheels and brakes
Brian we bought the kit from Chief. You are right, the torque plate in the kit should work just fine. I sure like the looks of new brakes verses 30 year old parts off of a wreck. The kicker is that the guys selling surplus parts want as much for theirs as new ones. I think between the info in the kit and the Williams STC I should have enough data to satisfy the administrator Thanks again for the info.

Re: Cleveland Wheels and brakes
No problem Rex. One thing I forgot to mention, you may have to make a 1/4 inch or so spacer to slide onto your axle for proper wheel alingment. They are easy to make out of tubbing. Or If you need one, I may have a couple laying around in the shop.

Re: Cleveland Wheels and brakes
Thanks Brian for your help. If you had a couple extra that would be great. I know that I do not have any tubing that size.

Thanks,
I saw a copy of the stc and did not see mention of the 40-28 wheel and 30-55 brake, can you post that info somehow? I'm sure I've missed something somewhere.
Did you have any trouble getting hold of Morrison?

The paperwork is at my Hangar. I will be back out there in a day or two and will double check it for you.
