Very Useful Mechanics Toolbox Software
I downloaded this software from Sacramento Sky Ranch the other day. I have spent several hours looking things up and still have only scratched the surface. Really neat program with tons and tons of useful information. Best $34 I have spent in a long time. http://www.mechanicsupport.com/

Re: Very Useful Mechanics Toolbox Software
I agree, I bought one of the first versions a couple years back and have downloaded the upgrades, great value.
You can now install it to a memory stick and take it anywhere and use it. Lots of detailed info on hardware that 've never found anywhere else and I'm a info junkie.

Re: Very Useful Mechanics Toolbox Software
I'm planning on ordering "Mechanics Toolbox" . What are the pro's and con's of disc vs. download.
Thanks in advance for your input.
Great site Steve.

It took me about 30 minutes to download at the shop. 1 1/2 for the house computer. Only thing I see is a few dollars more and you have to wait a few days.

Do you ever think about how far we have come in technology - particularly computers? Andy - could you imagine 10 years ago that you would be talking about heaps of manuals on a memory stick that you can stick in your pocket and carry wherever you need them. Hell you can even get movies on a memory stick to play on the computer!
When they first came out I paid a small fortune (over $100) for a 256K - last week I got another one - 16 gig for $60 odd dollars! Amazing progress.

Re: Very Useful Mechanics Toolbox Software
Yes, truly amazing, 15 years ago I amassed everything I could find in Paper to build a reference library and now I hardly ever open the book, it's all on my hard disk or memory stick. The basic install for Mech Toolbox fits on a 1 gig but there is no room left for updates which come at least every two months, so I have it on a 2gig. He has an option to download all manuals from the internet to the hard disk or mem stick but you need to work with a 4 gig stick to assure you have room.
Many of the "std" manuals are accessed with a link from Mech Toolbox to the internet.
Great tool, can't believe how much time I'll squander just looking tosee what there is in there.

Just downloaded "Mechanics Toolbox" - oh dear - looks like I am going to get myself in the manure again! Stuck in the office going through hundreds of pages of really interesting information instead of watching the idiot box with "she who must be obeyed".
Seriously tho', Steve and Andy are trained aircraft mechanics and they can see great value in it, so as one of the great unwashed restoring an aircraft without those skills and experience, I am looking forward to having a resource where I can get the correct information when I need it. Along with the SWPC CD's, I rate it as a required resource.

Y'all got me thinking about the last time I updated. I was running version 3.0.7 and now have version 6.0.9. While I was talking to John (you can't "update" through the software when you are that far behind) he said version 7 is about to be released. He also offered to send me a CD but I declined because I didn't need the computer that day. Good thing too, it took 4 hours for me to download the file. I bought nearly everything I needed from Sacramento Sky Ranch when I was working in CA . John was always a very knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge. I still order from them when I can just because of the customer service.

John and everyone else there are always very helpful. They're about 30 minutes driving from my house so I go there for all my hardware and whatnot. Or, if you fly in, they'll bring the parts over to Sac Executive (KSAC) and hand em to ya.
