    I flew with this setup all last year. Temps in Oregon range from the low 30s to the high 90s. I never see oil temps above 150f with the full cooler even in a long climb on a hot day. Most of the time they run 135f. My Vern-a-Therm is 185f. I do have a remote oil filter. I suppose I shed some heat there as well.

    Stock Piper. I checked it in boiling water a few weeks ago and got a 210 reading.
    Anyway, I was just trying to make the point that with with good baffling and an effort to block some of the air that tries to pressurize the lower cowl, there is no need to modify the firewall to get good cooling. That was "Just Call Me Al"'s recent question.
    I'm just finishing up putting in a skylight. once that's done I'll get back in the air and play with getting the oil temps up. We have some warmer weather now.

    Is your cooler a 7 rib or 9 rib. A friend of mine with a 9 rib has to block part of his in the summer.

    I'm not sure how the rib are counted. It's the cooler called out in the STC.

    Was curious because have tested a lot of the original gauges and found them all over in accuracy and the inaccuracies have not be linear.

    Well, I could take a bit more data on on intermediate temps. I'll do that next time in working on the engine.

    Differences between PA20 and PA22 firewalls?
    I would guess the differences would be:
    1) PA22 Steering rods for nosewheel
    2) PA22 Hole for the brake M/C actuating cable (1952~1955 PA22 the M/C is on the engine mount; in '56 it moved under the seat)
    3) PA22 piping for parking brake mounted on firewall
    And if PA22 firewall was installed on a PA22 or PA22/20, these holes would need to be covered

    What is the firewall exit change?
    Are there other dimensional or aerodynamic differences as well?

    Glen, The pa-20 firewall is shorter. It's covered at the start of this thread.
