I flew a 1950 Pacer with that pretty red handle selector and the big red handle jabbed into my leg the whole flight. I would have to hit it with the grinder and shave about half of it off.

The Piper or Maule valve handle shaft can easily be ground down and the hole for the plug redrilled so it fits nice and tight up against the side panel not sticking out to jab into your leg, can't do that with the Dakota valve.
