I may have found the problem. In the drawings the cables to the bellcrank both have links between the cable and bellcrank. At the elevator horn the upper horn has the cable turnbuckle attached directly to the horn through the plate where the trim system attaches. The lower horn has a link 41271-4 between the cable and lower horn. This is missing on this plane and the cable turnbuckle is attached directly, effectively shortening the cable. Does anyone know what these links are made from or dimensions? Could I make one from 4130 or do I have to order one and wait?

Re: Tri Pacer elevator rigging
I found a drawing showing the -4. The only difference seems to be the length of the "tail" extending out the back side. what significance this has I haven't a clue.

Great, where did you find that drawing?

Re: Tri Pacer elevator rigging
I did a search of the folder I have the Piper drawings in for 41271 and a Excel file came up. It was listed in the Excel file and I clicked on the link which brought me to the above file. In other words, I haven't a clue.

Re: Tri Pacer elevator rigging
I installed the missing link and all seems good now. I still have some adjustments to make but at 30lbs of cable tension I can get the down side to 11 degrees and the up to 24. The down hits the crosspiece in the tail which acts as a stop so I don't think I will get more than the 11. I'll go back and verify the plane is level but I think it should be good. I don't know if I'll be able to get the up to any stop besides the secondary under the panel. The only stop I see in the tail is the crossmember of the stabilizer. Of course something could be missing, just like the link was.

Re: Tri Pacer elevator rigging
Those are the intended stops as I understand the system.

Re: Tri Pacer elevator rigging
Problem. Not enough down elevator travel, even with cables disconnected. Elevator horn resting on down stop with stabilizer in the level plane.
Steps:
1. Leveled fuselage verified with firewall and using the door frame method.
2. Leveled horizontal stabilizer using trim and shim on rear tube
3. Check stab trim travel (correct)
4. See pics of elevator down travel. Elevator has plenty of up travel, excess. But no way to create more "down" as it it on the stop.
Ideas?

Jackscrew position with everything level.

Total amount of down elevator when everything is level.

Position of the horn, resting on the down stop, same setup as prior two photos.
