Commonwealth went out of business without getting it certified. The film is of the first prototype (NX41853), built by Allied Aircraft, and subsequently purchased by Commonwealth along with the rights. It was powered by two Continental C75 engines. Commonwealth built a second prototype (NX41999) with C85s. Allied claimed a 115 mph cruise speed with a 2200 lb. gross weight. (3 place.) If I find more specs I'll post later.

With fixed pitch props it probably would have sufferd the same fate as the aeronca lancer. No way to feather pitch.

The fate of poor single-engine performance, or the fate of poor sales?

    "Cruising Speed–115 mph.
    Top Speed–135 mph.
Landing Speed–48 mph (Flaps), 57 mph (Clean).
    Climb–850 ft. per minute.
    Take Off Run–Water, 637 ft. 10º flaps; Land, 532 ft. 10º flaps–6 mph. Wind.
    Cruising Range–Up to 500 miles.
    Service Ceiling–14,000 feet.
    Ceiling–1 Engine–Over 1,500 feet.
(Figures based on full gross load with two passengers–fixed pitch props.)"

The sales brochure also claims that a demonstration was made where an engine was cut just before reaching flying speed, and seconds later broke water, climbed, and remained airborne for 30 minutes. Supposedly this was filmed and photographed as evidence.
