This year, renewal was $499.00 from Global. http://www.global-aero.com/us/ If the link doesn't work, paste it into the brozer. The above rates were for just me (named pilot with 1,200 TW, 1,000 in type and 1500 total time). Shop around, it works sometimes!!

JOHN, I know you visit a few "unimproved strips" if you will. Does your policy have any restrictions or exclusions there. I had a policy a while back with AIG that only covered operations at airfields that were on the sectional (private or public) or i.e registered. But this same policy provided coverage in MEXICO if you can believe that. This was back in 2003-04 time frame.

Hope the convention plans are on track.

Wow! that's very similar to what I was quoted for a Tri-Pacer with very high restrictions for at large pilots, for any licensed private pilot it doubled. The 22/20 I had I was similar coverage and I was paying $2000/yr and any other pilot had to have 500 hrs TW and 25 in type.

I would be curious to find if location has much to do with rates. I mean Indiana is nearly one large emergency landing spot after another. Some places that are more rugged might cause the rates to go up.

I'm sure many factors such as yearly hours flown, previous accidents, credit score, blood type, phase of the moon, etc. all factor into the mysterious cauldron of the insurance actuarial tables to come up with some magic number.

I just quoted insurance through 2 places. They are both Independent agents. I think one of them made a mistake and quoted a PA-22 and not a PA20 (or TW conversion). I suspect they pulled the FAA site TC data from the N number. I made it clear that it was a TW conversion. I just got of the phone with the (expensive one) and they had quoted the exact same company and it was ~$200 higher and the difference was a PA 20 vs a PA 22. They said they had to have a little dialog just to make sure the company understood. When that was all said and done, the company I had to begin with was still the cheapest.

    That being said:

    Aerospace Insurance Managers, Inc
$1,000,000 liability each occurrence, $100,000 each passenger
    $25,000 hull
    $5,000 medical each person
$250.00 in motion deductible, $0.00 not in motion deductible,

    Cost - $842
    Pilot 467TT, 170tw, 120 in Make/Model

We've had confusion years ago on the TW/Nose-gear difference (PA-22/20) so it is always something I double/triple check with my agent so I'm sure it's insured as a TW. However, I am interested why mine is $250 cheaper with $5k higher hull value? I'm sure it's some strange mix of factors that are figured into the actuarial tables that no one could explain - even the insurance company.

Give Dana a call. He knows the business well and got my Dad, brother and some friends the best rate with better coverage to boot.
