Piper manufactured the PA-22 for several year models with a seaplane option, PA-22S, that had those upper cowl vents for added cooling. The option also included additional corrosion protection and a lower pitch prop.

Nice - I am looking for extra cooling options — maybe you have some more pics or even a drawing?

Anybody out there with more pictures or the drawing for the seaplane cooling vents in the top cowl. It does not seem to be on the drawings CD (from 2000) that I have ...

Got checked out in my (new to me) 1948 PA-17 today. Really like the Vagabond, it has a C-85.

    Thanks!

Curious how it was going perform at gross weight on a 2000' airstrip @ 70F. The Vagabond performed great! At 2200RPM it indicates 95MPH.

Default A tale of two tri-pacers

    ScottF posted awhile back...http://www.shortwingpipers.org/forum...ll=1#post68169

I just bought the airplane from him. It looks pretty much the same on the outside, but Scott made some interior/avionics improvements. It looks like he took really good care of the airplane, I plan to continue! Scott graciously offered to let me use his hangar while he looks for his next airplane.

N7053B is actually the second aircraft I have owned, and my second Tri-Pacer! I bought a '57 PA-22-150 with my dad in high school. I used it to get my private license, then we sold it to help pay for my Instrument/Commercial. Even though it doesn't belong to me, I still think of it as "my" airplane!

After a couple of thousand hours of flying Ce$$nas in Latin America and Africa, it feels really right to have a Tri-Pacer again. I did a flight review today and even though I haven't flown a PA-22 in 23 years, it felt comfortable. I'm looking forward to some travel adventures and teaching my kids to fly.
