Magnetic Particle Inspection
My strut forks are coming due for the 500 hr inspection required by AD 2015-08-04. In the past I've just replaced them, this time I thought about finding someone to magnaflux them. No luck so far....
Has anyone found a shop that does them? Preferably in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, or one that will accept, and return via UPS.

Re: Magnetic Particle Inspection
Univair does the inspection.

Thanks, I'll give them a call.

Re: Magnetic Particle Inspection
It was a no-go on Univair; they told me that they don't do the inspections.
I did locate a shop near FTW that does the inspections, their price for the 4 forks is $250; which, when I think about the investment, training, and liability they have, it really is a very fair price. However, since the forks are readily available for under $400 ($100 each), it just makes more sense (at least for me) to buy new.

Re: Magnetic Particle Inspection
What struts are they? Are the forks the 5/8 forks or 7/16?

I may give them a call - just the more I think about it, I can't believe anyone could, would, or should charge less than $250 to magnaflux 4 items. I'm just dealing with too cheap an item (words I never thought I'd say concerning aircraft parts!) to justify the shop/machine time to inspect them.

They are the 7/16 thread.

Re: Magnetic Particle Inspection
How long ya going to have the plane?
10 years?
Counting this years new forks.. thats $1200. plus the work.. off inspect back on, off inspect on, off inspect on. The new sealed struts come with new 5/8 stainless steel forks and never have to be inspected, roughly $2000 for the set of four, I know what I would do if I planned on keeping it 10 years, but mine had sealed struts when I bought it, its nice not having to mess with them, plus the stainless steel forks look nice
