Idaho residents I have questions.

I live in Illinois....you know what's next so I'll skip it. We might take a week or two vacation just to explore this summer. Looking for opinions on the state any areas to avoid places we have to look at etc? Any reason to avoid moving there?

I live in Oregon but have spent some time working and playing in Idaho, both by ground and airplane (1955 PA22-150)
There is a lot to see and do there, in the big city (Boise) and out in the wilder parts of the area.
You may find it strange compared to Illinois, as there are these things called "mountains" which are basically millions of tons of rock sticking 1~2 miles up from the ground, covered with trees, loaded with wildlife, most of which wants to kill you.
That said, the Pacific Northwest is one of the most exciting, relaxing, beautiful, challenging places in the US, and ready for your exploration dollars and hours.
It all depends on what floats yer boat, and what your skill level for flying is.

We have big rock bluffs, That count? No bears but 3 poisonous snakes and the rare mountain lion spotting. Even have our version of bigfoot.. I'll take a bear over our governor. Thank you for all the info.

Don’t move here... everyone else is

Cascade/McCall is kind of the backcountry hub if you are interested in flying. Lots of areas to explore from there. I flew my pa-22 to lots of fun soots within an hour or two from southwestern idaho.

Western idaho has the population but is getting more crowded. Lots of people moving here, escaping from California. Eastern idaho is smaller in population but close to recreation areas and mountainous areas as well. The center of southern idaho is mostly high desert .

It is generally hot in the summer and cold in the winter. For mountain flying expect snow to melt in April or May, June is good, and July and August to compete with forrest fires.

I have heard Boise is really booming with the influx of folks from California. Same thing going on in Texas. Luckily I live in a town of 8000 people and don't have to deal with all those people unless I go to the Metromess (Dallas/Ft. Worth).

I love flying in Idaho and Utah.

I second Scottfs opinions... I bought his tripacer last year and have flown several places in the Idaho/Oregon backcountry. I just put micro VGs on it and like the lower approach and landing speeds. SE Idaho is getting crowded, even the airspace! Coming back about noon today there were 5 airliners coming into Boise, a couple of trainers doing IFR approaches plus a dozen airplanes in the pattern at both Nampa and Caldwell. Not Dallas/Ft Worth, but busy enough for me!

There are areas of Idaho that are growing, but there are plenty of rural areas that haven’t changed much.
