Until getting these old newspaper photos, I had no idea about this story....and yes, a shortwing was involved. On August 27, 1951, Bernarr MacFadden, at the ripe old age of 83, parachuted from a Stinson 108 into the Hudson River. He had previously jumped on his birthday a few years earlier at Niagara Falls, NY. You guys can google him, but Bernarr MacFadden was a well known "culturist," advocating a healthy lifestyle, etc. He was married many times and was a publisher of pulp magazines. Anyhow, these photos are original newspaper copies of the event. The jump flight originated at Teterboro Airport. MacFadden jumped from Stinson 108 N9268K. The camera/spotter plane was what seems to be a 1950 Piper Pacer. The photos were drawn on a bit by the newspaper to enhance things. I can see its a Pacer because of the right hand side step. Anybody have any clue as to the N# of this Pacer? Anybody have any ID's of Teterboro-based Pacers at the time? Anyway, here are all the photos I have. The Pacer shows up in the last couple. Enjoy!

Just found these Clipper photos in a photo album I nabbed from Healdsburg, CA. They were taken in 1952 at "Rued's Airport, Healdsburg." From what I can see we have N5798H and N5955H or 85H or 65H or 35H...cant tell.
Few things are as special as a couple Clippers sitting on some grass.
Great photos from the west side.

As a short wing enthusiast and helicopter mechanic I am amazed by the Vertigyro. It used a Colt fuselage with a turbine apu in the rear of the fuselage. Compressed air from the apu
was used to drive the rotor mast.

Now there is an STC someone should pursue!!! This is the solution to making the shortwings an equivalent to the Super Cub. Forget the slotted wing.....this is what Dakota Cubs needs to get moving on!

Interesting, I bet it was a handful to get the hang of flying.

Imagine this showing up in your driveway!
I recently scanned this slide. Looks to be somewhere closer to the equator! Slide is dated 1960.
