O-320-B2B Cylinder Installation
I have sent my jug out for repair and am reviewing the installation procedure. I am confused about this section in the manual (60294-7):
a. Assemble hold down plates (where applicable)
and cylinder base hold down nuts. Install shims between
hold down plates and cylinder barrel as directed in
figure 6-31.
b. Tighten 1/2 inch or 7/16 inch hold down nuts to
300 inch pounds (25 foot pounds) torque.
c. Remove shims and using the same sequence,
tighten the 1/2 inch nuts to 600 inch pounds (50 foot
pounds) torque or the 7/16 inch hold down nuts to 420
inch pounds (35 foot pounds) torque.
d. Tighten the 3/8 inch hold down nuts to 300 inch
pounds (25 foot pounds) torque. Sequence is optional.
If I place shims between the cylinder and the plates won't they get squeezed when I torque the nuts? How would I get them out? I don't remember a gap between the plates and the cylinder...
Thanks
Rich

Re: O-320-B2B Cylinder Installation
Ahhhhh, I think I get it. The shims go between the EDGE of the plates and BARREL of the cylinder. Not under the plates between the plates and the flange.
headslap.

You got it. Never had an issue with it.

Thanks Steve. Do you normally do the shim thing? I can cut up a feeler gauge I suppose...

Re: O-320-B2B Cylinder Installation
I think the issue is just make sure the plates are lying flat on the cylinder flange before tightening, not somehow cocked and riding up on the radius between the barrel and the flange when tightening.

I just make sure I can get a feeler gauge between the plate and cylinder barrel.
