I sure like my Hartzel . Did not have to modify the oil cooler mounts and the cable bolted right up.

Does anyone know the weight of the original Delco-Remy starter (1109657)? Just wondering what the weight savings would be by replacing with one of the inline models (about 9.5 lbs).

Thanks! That's a pretty good weight savings.

I have both SkyTec models - highly recommend the "NL" 122 or 149 which ever fits your starter ring gear.

From what I read, the Hartzell pulls fewer amps and spins slower to match the OEM starter. I still haven't decided which one I'm getting.......the old Delco is a boat anchor that I'd like to replace but spending $400 is hard for me to do....

I couldn't find the thread but years ago I put a DC amp meter clamp on the starter cable and found that the old Delco starters drew almost twice as many amps as the newer starters.
