I am working on paperwork for somebody with 11 gal. auxiliary wing tanks in a PA-22. Tanks were installed in '78 IAW SA12AL (PA-20). SA536AL appears to cover the same mod in a PA-22. Both reference Stoddard Aero Service AFMS dated January 29, 1969. I suspect a supplement from either STC would work (certainly better than what I have). I spoke with Cub Crafters (current holders of the STC) and they gave me STC cover sheets for both, with our s/n on them (thank you Cub Crafters), but they do not have a copy of the supplement. If any of you fine people have a copy you would be willing to copy and mail/email/post for me I would be very greatful.
The Stoddard tanks I have seen were made of tern plate and started rusting and leaaking much like the PA12 tanks. I know someone with them in a Super Cub. I will see if he has the suppliment.
There was a Pacer here locally a few years ago that had them.... It was sold and went back east.... Main thing I remember about the system was it incorporated two standard fuel valves.... Made it a pain for fuel management....
My Pacer has the two extra tanks. It came with them when I purchased the Plane 15 years ago. I have to look through the log books since I can't remember when they were installed. The original fuel selector controls the left wing and the new (second) selector is for the right wing. Fuel management is important, but not that difficult. The two auxiliary tanks can only be used in cruise (climb is fine), but not for take off and landing. 10 Gallon are usable in each tank so I get an additional 1 hour and 15 minutes (2.5 hours total) out of the tanks. Burning about 7.6 Gal/Hour at altitude I have done flights covering over 700 NM none stop. I have the STC at home and will be happy to scan it and post it (if I can figure out how to do it).
I looked at Home, but couldn't find them. I think all my original STCs are with the log books in the lock box at the bank. I'm on a business trip till Sunday night. I can go by the bank Monday or Tuesday to look for them.
