I'm planning to fly-in on Sunday the 27th between 9 and 10 AM. I've heard from a few other planes (Bob C., Don B., and maybe Fred B.) that would like to meet-up somewhere about an hour south of OSH and then arrive together. We've done this before so if you have been putting off flying in because it's complicated or scary, come tag along. I'll bring up the rear and watch your tail. Anyone else want to join an arrival party ?? 8-)

In the past I've camped on the north side of runway 27, which is close to the Hilton. I like eating breakfast and dinner there. However this year I'd like to camp near other shortwingers. How do I let the folks directing the planes to parking I want to get to that area? What is that area called? Is there a map of the camping areas I can see online?

I'm on summer vacation with my kids until just before Oshkosh, then I have a couple days work on the plane to complete before I head for Airventure. Not sure exactly which day I'll arrive, but I do hope to be there on Friday or Saturday morning July 25/26.

Any other advice appreciated.

Unfortunately it looks like I will be driving since I can't get Cathy and the three kids in the airplane with me. Not sure which days I will be at OSH. I am putting on a Short Wing Piper seminar on Thursday July 31st at 5:30 at 009 Honda Generator Pavillion. Clyde Smith and Mark Erickson of Dakota Cub will be there also. http://www.airventure.org/forums/forum_ ... ionID=9350 (http://www.airventure.org/forums/forum_detail.asp?EventID=12&SessionID=9350)

Would love to meet more Short Wingers.

My son and I will be there. Flying the CRV with the cedar-strip canoe on top. Going to get some fishing in also.
Probably Monday the 28th for us.

Ed, I'll check with the VAC guys on Monday to see if they have a row (or two) earmarked for SWP's. I'll post here if they do. Usually all you need is the VAC sign in your window when you arrive and they will lead you to the area south of the Theatre in the Woods. The graphic file for the VAC window sign is available as a pdf in the EAA's arrival notam section of their website, or this link will take you there http://www.airventure.org/atc/arrival_signs.html

Thanks Blue's Pilot. I ordered the arrival notam by mail but haven't taken time to read it yet. Didn't think to look for the signs on the web site. That'll help.

Dave, as you probably remember, my N number is 4518H. Please look me up, I'd like to meet you.

Hi Ed,

I just talked to the Vintage Aircraft Association and "H.G." said they always have room for a few more Short Wingers. They will do their best to park us near each other but if the VAC rows fill up some Short Wings will wind up a row or two (or several) away. The scooter guys on the field may hold a few spaces next to you for Short Wings if you ask them politely, but they probably would not be able to hold the spaces for more than a day. If attendance is low this year it should be easier to park near each other. The guy on the phone called it "showplane camping area" but in the past the VAC windshield sign got us parked in the vintage camping area (yellow area on the grounds map). I don't think many of us were showing our airplanes but the judges did find those who had the judging card on their prop.

H.G. said the only way to be sure you park right next to other short wingers is to arrive at the same time. You are welcome to fly in with the Sunday morning bunch.

There is a map of the grounds at http://www.airventure.org/2008/planning ... s_map.html (http://www.airventure.org/2008/planning/grounds_map.html)

Blue's Pilot, Like I said I'm not sure which day I'll be arriving, but Sunday might be a possibility. If so, I'd sure enjoy flying in with the other shortwingers.

Please tell me more.
