Well I have been watching Cathy and her instructor from the hanger the last couple of days and knew she was getting close. Today was the day. She soloed a friends Tri-Pacer and I got it all in pictures and video. :D http://picasaweb.google.com/Pierceaero/CathySFirstSolo#

Congratulations - well done! :D

And be very proud of what you have achieved. You have done something that no amount of money, influence or power can buy.

I would love to be a fly on the wall the next time you are flying with Steve - just remember - if you are in the left seat, you are in command!
(Which in our house is the normal state of affairs - Joy is always in the left seat - even sleeps an the left side ;) )

Steve, now, when at a fly-in, you can go ahead and have that really tall Margarita you've been craving all these years!

ALERT ! ALERT ! Texas Airspace has been compromised! Fly there at your own risk!!! Actually, Cathy, in my family, if they don't make fun of you, they don't like you! Congrats.

Great Job, Cathy. A goal realized is a wonderful thing.

I'm with Jim on that side benefit for Steve. There have been more than a few times that I had a "designated pilot" for the trip home.

Come on out Rex. I took Taylor in the Pacer and Cathy took Lee in the Tri-Pacer to Wichita Falls yesterday to see the Jenny fly. On our return trip we swapped kids and landed at a friends 1200 foot strip. Cathy hadn't landed on grass as PIC and she did great.100_4008 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2d245guv]100_4014 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2d245guv]100_4026 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2d245guv]

Cathy - you have again proved that a Mum can do any damn thing she sets her mind to - "Mum's Taxi" (basketball, soccer, music lessons, school) from now on will be known as "Mum's Tripacer"! Well done!

We are off to Tennessee for Christmas. Cathy is flying the Tri-Pacer and I will fly the Pacer. We can finally fly as a family. :D Should be fun. Got the back seat out of the Tri to carry bags etc and the secret Santa gifts are in my baggage. Pictures to follow. Merry Christmas to everyone.

I hope everyone notices the real story above. Instead of outgrowing the shortwing, and trading it in for a larger C---na, the Pierces' just manufactured another pilot! His and Hers shortwings!
We're all jealous you guys. Merry Christmas.

We took off around 8 am. 20 degrees out but the Tri-Pacer and Pacer both have great heaters. It was a beautiful flight in dead calm air. Took us 4 1/2 hours over some beautiful scenery of east Texas, the hills of north western Arkansas, the flat fields of eastern Arkansas. We are getting spoiled having our friends Tri-Pacer at our disposal. We both had a great time as did the kids I think. Much improved over the 10-11 hour van ride of years past.

Glad you all made it safe . Beautiful blue skies to you all and MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR .

I am stuck at work in blizzard conditions probably until tomorrow . Hopefully will ge to go home . It is only a 25 mile flight for me but across Cook Inlet and this time of year it is frigid . I will start preheating in the AM and ready to take off when she clears up .

Steve,
How does the performance compare between a metalized Tri-Pacer and a Pacer?

Beats the heck out of being stuck in an ice storm in an extended cab Chevy pickup, huh? ;)

Merry Christmas!

Extended cab Chevy pick-up, two kids in the back seat, baby and Cathy in the front pulling a trailer hauling a 1200 lb. monument rock, 60' of turn of the century cast iron fencing and a freshly restored Tri-Pacer fuselage stuck in an ice storm in Little Rock, AR on the way to Memphis for Christmas. I don't think my blood pressure has ever risen to that level since.

Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas. :D

Steve,
How does the performance compare between a metalized Tri-Pacer and a Pacer?
Dave
She was running 50 rpm more for the same speed and burned 1 gallon an hour less than me. I'm running a 150 hp O-320 with a 58" prop and 8.50 tires and she is running a 160 hp O-320 but I don't remember the pitch of the prop. The fuselage is metalized but wings are fabric. It is a very nice performing Tri-Pacer that gets out and climbs very well and flies very well.

Steve if you need to top off on the way back TRL is a good stop. I know a couple there that has a great Pacer project they are working on. ;)

Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and is looking forward to a great and prosperous new year. Safe flying to all. :)
