View Full Version : Unknown piece and odd sized anti-drag wire

I have a piece of aluminum that I do not know where it goes on my airplane. It is possible that it doesn't go with my airplane but it has the same white paint with blue overspray on the back side so I am pretty sure it does. I have been meaning to ask for some time but finally took a picture of it.

I hope that I have not gone too far without asking (my fuselage is done).

My second question is; My second wing bay's anti-drag wire is larger than the other three wires and I was wondering if the larger wire should have a different tension than the others.

Thanks a lot,

Zac Weidner

As far as I know and all the wings I have built all the tensions are the same. Don't recognize your aluminum part. Is it flat?

There is a small lip on the aluminum; the top side as it appears in the center picture. Otherwise, it is flat.

looks like this piece is part of the under side wing to fuselage fairing... typically the lip goes against the fuselage

If you are referring to the wing root fairings, I don't think that this is what it is because I have all of the wing root fairings but there this piece may be something in addition to them. Surely someone will know exactly where it goes.

Looks like a Aeronca Champ/Chief Wing Root Fairing to me, but I could be wrong........

If you are restoring a taildragger conversion, that is the piece that goes behind the gear in order to round out the lower fuselage.

I thought that too Brian but isn't that piece rounded and square on both ends?

I also have these screws with large washers that I repainted with black enamel in the beginning of my restoration but never found a place to put them. I apologize for all of the questions lately but I don't know any other way to find these things out.

Could they be for the windshield?100_3279 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:25vkxkdg]100_3280 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:25vkxkdg]

How many washers do you have like these?

Could they be for the windshield?

I think that is what they are. It looks like you put a piece of headliner under the washer, is that correct? I only have two of these, so then, what goes into the tinnerman nut above the one you have a picture of?

That is a thick woven material that was there when we disassembled it. I think the top was tab was missing everything. When I took that part apart there was a hanger sitting on top of it. :o

It looks like the top nut gets a regular 6-32 3/4" machine screw according to the drawings. I think i will put a piece of headliner under the washer to protect the windshield from abrasion. Thanks for the help on these.
