I have been fielding lots of questions about another restoration seminar this year. This will be the 5th year we have put this gathering on and they seem to get better every year. Talked to Jason Gerard with Stewart's System http://www.stewartsystems.aero/ and we are planning on havinging a Stewart's System Seminar on Feb. 10, 11 and 12th which is Wed. -Fri. and then our usual restoration seminar starting the weekend of the 13 and 14th and the following weekend of the 20th and 21st with the usual invite for folks to stay between the two weekends.

In the years past we have done fabric work, wing assembly, fuselage repairs and some fun fly outs with a Texas flair. I am open to suggestions and I think Cathy has more details and a survey. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LDDSHGZ

These seminars have always been a lot of fun, lots of good information and tricks of the trade passed around, however the best thing about them for me is all the people that I have gotten to know. Hope to meet more of you this year. Can't wait for February.

I have been checking with hotels here in Graham and these are the rates for the seminar.

Best Western (940) 521-0190. They have rooms with either 1 King, Double Beds, or 1 King with a couch available for $65.99 + tax a night. This includes a hot breakfast. To get this rate mention you are with the Pierce Aero seminar in February and tell them Guadulupe gave you this rate.

Gateway Inn (940) 549-0222. They have rooms with a Queen bed for $35.00 + tax a night or rooms with Kings or Doubles for $39.00 + tax a night. This also includes a breakfast.

Executive Inn (940) 549-8320. They have rooms with 2 beds (either Full or Queen size) for $44.00 + tax a night, or a room with 1 King bed for $39.99 + tax a night. That includes breakfast also.

There is also a weekly rate motel in town which has just been remodeled. It is the American Inn and there phone number is (940) 549-9900 and I have not been able to get in touch with anyone there yet to find out rates.

Holiday Inn Express (940) 521-9188. This hotel is 4 months old and right across from the airport. They have rooms with either 1 King or 2 Queens for $79.00 + tax a night. This includes a hot breakfast. When you call, ask for Mike and tell him you are with Pierce Aero Seminar.

Last but not least, is the Wildcatter Ranch (940) 549-3555. They have cabins to rent, but the hotel is not open in the winter. They have openings except for Valentines Day and they will be limited on that day so if you want to stay here you might call them soon. They have cabin suites with 2 Queen beds that are regularly $289 a night and they will give us those for $119 a night. They also have 2 Guest Houses...the Homestead has 2 rooms (1 Queen and a set of bunks), kitchen, and living room. This is regularly in the $300's and they will give us that one for $119 a night. The other guest house is OT's Cabin which is the newest. It is the size of a house with 2 rooms (Kings and baths in each room), kitchen, and living room. This rents in the $400's, but they will give us this one for $209 a night. They have a website that you might want to check out and have some pics of the rooms. http://www.wildcatterranch.com/. If you are planning to stay here, call and talk to Jason McAlester and tell him you are with the Pierce Aero Seminar.

I really don't have first hand knowledge of these hotels, so if anyone has stayed at any of these and wants to give us a rating of these hotels, please do so.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in February! That is so close....I better get busy!

Looks like things are shaping up nicely for the upcoming seminar. If you haven't filled out our survey and plan to attend please click the link below. If you just want to come play and aren't interested in the seminar, go to the survey and put that in the comments section with your name and weekend/s you will be coming. This way we have an idea of how many to expect.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LDDSHGZ

For those of you that are interested in the Stewart Systems Seminar the 10th-12th, please contact Jason directly at jason@aerospek.com. He needs your name and contact information for his paperwork so he knows how much of his product to bring, and also $150 deposit. The remaining payment to Jason will be due at the end of his seminar.

There are going to be a lot of new faces this year and Steve and I look forward to seeing each of you. Hopefully we will have some really nice flying weather for all of you!

Things are shaping up nicely for the seminar. Looking forward to a great time! For those of you flying in, could you post your travel times and which airport you are flying into.

I have a man here in Graham that will make trips to pick people up and would like to get some kind of agenda for him. Also, we have some folks coming in that have rented cars and it would be great to get a few of you together if the times work out.

Have you decided yet what subjects/projects will be included in the seminar?

Steve Pierce

Rigging, some covering repairs and that elusive Scott 3200 tail wheel rebuild. I am sure there will be more stuff. Rex is bringing his tail surfaces and Cal is bringing his wings. I hear DW needs a new set of floor boards. ;-) Also 30 lbs. of crab legs coming in from AK. :-P

My Dad had a good suggestion on some things to do at the seminar. He wanted to see how you take a whole bay of fabric out to gain access to the wing structure for repairs, then glue a patch and rib stitch back to the adjoining ribs. I thought this would be good so you can see how to repair your own fabric if needed and I happen to have a Tri-Pacer wing that needs some work with the fabric still installed. Also considering doing a prop strike inspection on an O-320 Lycoming in accordance with Airworthiness Directive 04-10-14. Feedback please.

Those both sound like great ideas. Good practical knowledge that we can take away and use.
Also if you have participants that have not seen your bungee installation demo (that's always an exciting thing to watch), you could change-out the bungees on Cathy's Tripacer.

That would definitely require all particpants to sign a libility waiver to observe the operation. See previous video of the seminar two years ago.

OK, for those of you coming the first weekend, we have a special treat planned as one of the Alaska guys is bringing about 30 pounds of King Crab (which we will take up a collection for at the seminar). We unfortunately don't have the proper utensils for cracking open these crab legs. If anyone has crackers that they don't mind bringing, please do so. Otherwise, we will all be using the pliers out of Steve's toolbox (and yes, they DO have to be returned after using).

Stephen

Just wash the pliers out of Steve's tool box, they"ll work fine. Actually, they'll work fine clean or not.

Well, we only have about a week before people start showing up, and I thought I would address some of the meal questions.

According to the survey I did, it was about equal on whether or not we provide meals during the seminar. So, what I propose, is to have lunch meat and all the fixins’ for lunch and we will just put out a jar to collect money everyday per person. It shouldn’t be more than $2-3 dollars for lunch every day.

I know that one night the first weekend, we will be cooking Crab Legs. For the other nights, we will visit the local restaurants ‘just to get away from the hangar for a while’ as Steve says. There may be some nights where we either cook something here or call in a pizza, but if we do, we will just put out our jar again and ask for a little money to help pay for the cost.

Hope this sounds okay to everyone

Well Jason is here from Stewarts System. We scrapped glue off the covering frames and shot the breeze till midnight. Fun starts tomorrow. Got an 80 lb. wild pig in the cooler, 30 lbs. of Alaskan king crab on the way and some gulf shrimp as well. Looks like I'm gonna learn some stuff and loose my girlish figure.

Short flight or drive from Waxahachie. Stuff going on all weekend, next week and next weekend. Stewarts System is awesome. No stink, no glue stuck fingers and no sore fingers from rib stitching using the Staggerwing Knot. Neat stuff I'm learnin'.

So much for warm Texas weather. They have a saying in Texas, if you don't like the weather wait a couple of days. Gonna be in the 60s next week.

Just the glue process and the Staggerwing knot make this process superior. Oh, yes then the Eko-fill process...and...the ability to go back and easily iron out bumps...

Ask, Jason what he thinks about sprying other top coats....such as Poly-tone, etc. over the Eko-coat.

Yea and all of that White Stuff in the background is NOT suppose to be here.

I thought I left that stuff behind in Colorado and New Mexico.

Bu. Bu,,.burr I only like to look at it in pictures . Now there is 5" on the ground here in Wonderful Waxahachie.

PS Give special thanks to the Crab fishermen that work so hard for that sweet crab meat,

Well we shot Stewarts paint yesterday and wow. Flows out nice and when I got some on my finger I poured a little water on a rg and wiped it of. Amazing. Jason has done a great job and will continue with some folks who couldn't come till this weekend.

Bushwheel Bill Duncan and Diana got here last night in the Bushwheel mobile with their miniature Australian Sheppards Krome and Scout who are siblings of our puppie Pokie. That was a fun reunion.

Lots of stuff going on today. The snow is melting and it is gonna be 59 degrees today. My folks should get here around lunch along with the Oklahoma Super Cub contingent. I bet the two Alaskans will straighten them out. Clayton's BBQ for lunch and Alaskan King Crab legs for dinner tonight. I'm gonna loose my girlish figure with all this good food. Will post some more photos tonight.

Too bad the weather guessers guessed so badly. Supposed to be clear and sunny all day from Memphis to Graham. The Dallas ceilings went above 100 feet about 5PM. Didn't make it.

Arh! Weather forcasters!

They say it's not an exact science but I often wonder if the buildings they work in have windows and if so, do they ever look out of them?

Still I suppose there a some benefits to being grounded half way home due weather - nice warm motel in pretty Warrambool, lovely companion, can't go anywhere so how to fill in the time?

30 years later I can't wait to take her flying again - and getting stuck due weather will be a bonus

Pierce - will you stop talking about King Crab!

Everytime I read about King Crab (or BBQ pig or gulf shrimp) I start to dribble down my chin and make a mess!

And as for showing pictures of the food - that's really mean.

Book me in for next year - I'll get there somehow!

Well the seminar has wound down and we are back to work and to try and recover some lost sleep. Had a great time with old friends, met lots of new friends and learned a lot. Got some great ideas for some neat things to put on the website so we can share some of the technical things that went on. I stayed up last night and put captions on my pictures so anyone who wasn't here can get a feel for what went on for almost two weeks. Hope to see and meet more folks next year.
