Hello
Has anyone had any luck getting a different fuel gauge approved in their airplane? We have an SW gauge(hopefully it's Piper P/N 450664) and a switch to select between tanks. This seems to correspond with drawing#13466.
Sure would be cool to get rid of that switch. Maybe a Westach dual quantity gauge? Any thoughts?

Yeah but it gets your attention and wakes you up. They are pretty much idiot proof otherwise.

I would be the idiot who hits his head....but, yes I agree that the simplicity of the foat type gauge is good. That's why I also like the wing root style the the SC uses.

What about using the Electronics International FL-2 gauge with capacitive probes? Yeah, I know that it is not STC'd, but I always wonder if it could be installed under feild approval? Seems like this would be a improvement over the "boiler tubes" installed under the wings, especially if you combine it with a EI fuel flow computer.

I want to use SC Gauges on my Clipper. Did you do yours under a field approval? Where did you find gauges?

Hi Gilbert
I'll admit it, I don't know what Clipper gauges look like. Are they a sight-glass like a Super Cub? Dakota Cub is selling a cool looking sight-gauge approved for Super Cubs.... http://www.dakotacub.com/dakota_cub_aircraft_004.htm

I used the Wag Aero PMA'd sight gauges for replacments on my 1950 Pacer. The quality was good for Wag. You could easily weld a aluminum boss fitting on the bottom of the tank. They pass through the wing at a the center of an inspection cover with a grommet. http://store.wagaero.com/product_info.php?products_id=96

I got PA18 approved and installed on my Colt. One of the best mods I ever made. I can actually tell how much fuel I have which was never the
case with the old electric gauges. At least not to the degree you could depend on. I think I sent Steve Pierce a 337 copy months ago.

I am using TSO'd UMA 2 1/4" fuel gauges 0-30 ohms, found them on the Aircraft Spruce web site catalog, their book catalog only show the 1 1/4" TSO'd gauges. Installed two of them, no switch.
