bottom cowling for pa22 colt

Hello Everyone!

My bottom cowling on the Colt is getting pretty worn out and needs replacing! I'm about at my witts end trying to come up with something. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! I've contacted UNIVAIR and although they sell cowlings for COLTS they only sell them for serial numbers below 8600. Mine is in the 9700 range. I don't know what the difference is, is it minor, can I purchase the one at UNIVAIR and with minor mods have it work with my plane??

I know what you're going through. 48 years of stop drilling and rivets have done a number on mine! Mine's 9657, and it's rare I see one newer. Congrats!

nice looking Colt you have!! Where did you get the wheel pants? The problem I'm having is the ones they sell at UNIAIR are for serial numbers 8630 and below and I can't find out what th e difference is. Is it close enough to modify?

I put mine ( N5185Z) next to Rusty's & at first glance they appear identical.

HOWEVER; the Triangular Doubler is of a slightly different shape.

Also mine is riveted & his is Spot-welded .

Hard to tell what ORIGINAL is after the years & repairs.

Well thanks! It's pretty good from 20 feet away. The wheel pants were on it when I got it. The logbooks show they were added in 1994.

Mine is 8820 so it's on the same side of the fence as Rusty's.

You can use a tri-pacer lower cowl. You just have to put a piece of metal in where the oil cooler scoop would be. The Univair catalog shows PA-22-108 lower cowl serial number 8000 and up. PN# U14258-000.
