Where would a Piper owner find the "PIPER" emblem that's on the control yoke? Seems to be hard to find if not impossible!

A good friend of mine is getting ready to build some cast aluminum emblems. If you can't find them anywhere else, let me know and I'll let you know when they are ready.

phip007, I tried to reply back to your message with a photo, but couldn't figure out how to attach the photo so I'll just put it here. These are pictures of the original R/H emblem on my plane that I rebuilt. Re-painting them can be done, but it is VERY tedious! I think it turned out alright though.
Tim, I'll let you know when we've got the new ones built.

54pacer,
the emblems you posted look good. I'm going try to get a quote from Moody Aero Graphics to fabricate these emblems. Now will they also paint around the PIPER lettering?

I also am looking for one, as I have one already. Are the emblems the same as original with the pins on the back side to mount in the holes in the yoke? Also, how much for them? Thanks in advance for your help!

I think most are missing because the pins on the back broke off. I was missing one pin anyway so i cut the rest off and replaced with 6-32 flat head screws and lock nuts. Filed the screw flush with the nut and touched up the screws with paint to hide them. Yea painting the emblems is a chore.

Miranda - if he doesn't get his act together soon there are lots of Shortwing drivers who would jump at the chance to marry someone who thinks a set of emblems for a shortwing would make an ideal Christmas present.:icon_wink:

You know miranda, it might be more posable to get a pair of slippers embroidered with the Piper emblem then the Yoke emblems...just saying.
I bet we could get a group price for embroidered slippers for all of us, you know like the mufflers.
Then you can still get that Piper neck tie he is no doubt dreaming about.

Hi Marty,
I don't have a need for them so I'd be willing to part with them. I will warn you that if you look at the pics you'll see that one of the two posts used to attach them to the yoke is broken off on each emblem. You would have to deal with that. Make me an offer.

The ones on Ebay are actually earlier - like the ones on my '53. I am not sure if it was '54 or '55 that they went to the larger ones like folks are looking for.

I have designed and manufactured a replica emblem for the Piper Tri-Pacer yoke using my 3D Printer. It attaches to yoke with two 4-40 screws, there are metal thread inserts in the plastic for the screws. I will sell them for $15 each or $25 for a pair plus shipping. I have them in RED or Natural color, but can make them in BLUE, BLACK, or glow in the dark. They are made out of ABS plastic.

I've just been looking into sorting two out for our 1953 TriPacer. They are a wrap-round aluminium sort, about 3" wide. 5 years ago there was just the pilot side, but someone has removed that, and I can't locate it. It looks to have a green background, and maybe fluting on the underside? The photo shows that it was already loose. Any help would be great.

I just received two PIPER emblems that go onto Tri Pacers and Colts control wheel yoke. These are very hard to find. I see quite a few Tri Pacers where they are missing. One of Clyde Smiths students, Geoff Combs remanufactured these from scratch (they are made from a durable and light plastic). He tried to make some from creating a cast from an old emblem…just didn’t come out right. Geoff said the biggest expense of these emblems is the chrome plating process. These emblems are about as close to the original as I've ever seen. They really came out very nice, but they aren’t cheap. The original emblems were painted between the lettering (PIPER) usually with Red paint if you want to keep it like the original emblem, but with an all chrome emblem I’m not sure I would want to do that because they really look beautiful with just all chrome. 6757
Geoff's email is geoff@aerosportproducts.com (javascript:window.top.ZmObjectManager.__doClickOb ject(document.getElementById("OBJ_PREFIX_DWT3526_com_zimbra_email"));). or g.combs@aerosportmodeling.com (javascript:window.top.ZmObjectManager.__doClickOb ject(document.getElementById("OBJ_PREFIX_DWT3527_com_zimbra_email"));)

Thanks for the info. Ours is a 1953 TriPacer and doesn't have the rectangular style emblem. It uses a piece of aluminium sheet folded round and I think it is etched to take paint - ours had green paint, but I've seen brown too, and I think there was a blue one. It probably originally matched the seat frame colour and the fuselage line. I'm going by a photo taken several years ago. We have got a spare rectangular one in our box of bits - I don't know where that came from, or its condition or whether it has its fixing pins. Dave.

I have a source for yoke emblems like these if anyone interested. They are replicas and not duplicates. About .090/.100 thick, adhesive backed. Would put them on some .016 - .020 for rigidity.

Normally $50 for a pair but $40 for anyone here. The pic below is just an example of a variant or two. Can be custom made to most any thing/color/image/logo one might want or need. The bottom one is an insert that is in an original emblem casting. You just have to remove the "embossed Piper" inside the casting........ the one on the yoke is the insert with the corroded casting cleaned up and painted black. The 3 above would replace the casting itself but the cavity under the emblem needs to be filled with a light weight filler and smoothed out level for the adhesive to stick.

We have a set of the pot metal control wheel emblems and also a set of early sheet metal emblems. The pot metal emblems are being restored by brazing on new pins, rechroming and repainting them. The sheet metal emblems are in very good condition. Either could come with a set of fresh powder coated wheels. Not for sale but we would consider trading either set for a pair of 1955 TriPacer cowl emblems in serviceable condition.
